Anyway: Tapanuli, North Sumatra.
When I first met Farida, her immediate family was living in a deep blue colored house in Parlilitan. She also had family in Huta Galung and Pakkat (all in the area west and north of Danau Toba.) The village where Farida was born is called Pasi. It takes several hours of traveling on narrow, pot-holed, washed out roads (sometimes with wood planks to allow the crossing of streams) to arrive at these villages. Although we were just traveling on the west and north west sides of Lake Toba, it still took several hours to reach the village of Parlilitan which is the first village that Farida brought me to. One of the most annoying problems is the fact that the drivers on these roads had to avoid and maneuver around oncoming vehicles that were also avoiding pot holes and washed out areas. Farida had to bring me here so her parents could approve of me as a possible fiancee for their daughter.
