When we arrived at Faridas' family home, I found out that it was a large house that the family had built themselves. It had flower bushes between the one road through the village and the house. The road can be seen in this photo. Parlilitan is just a few houses and a school set along this road with a small square at the bottom of a hill that has more houses and a couple of warungs which are places to eat a small selection of meals and drink tea or coffee. Warungs are too small to be called restaurants. Their house was 2 stories and the front entrance was on the same level of the road. The back entrance was at a lower level because the house is built on a hill that overlooks a huge valley with mountains rising beyond the valley. We spent a lot of time getting to know each other and the family was sizing me up as a possible fiancee for Farida. After about 1 month in the area of Parlilitan, getting to know many family members and villagers, it became time for me to return to USA with the agreement that if I wrote constantly and did everything necessary to prepare for marriage, then I could court Farida. Farida accompanied me as far as Parapat where I caught a bemo back to Medan and she returned to Padang Sidempuan to await my letters. The church in the background is where we got married.
